Rotherfield

                             Places: Rotherfield

‘Rother’ was another word for ‘river’.

  • Witch’s tower in woods on a hill in Rotherfield. See the hill it stands on in the distance. People have gone crazy after visiting this place. Has a stone spiral staircase all the way to the top and 3" thick walls.
  • Tunnel entrance under an oak tree in the middle of a field by Chant Lane, leading to the church. If you visit this place have a look at the amazing old street lamp in a garden at the end of the lane.
  • Shaped tree by bridge.
  • Disused railway bridge. Fenced off at present and borders someone’s garden, but hopefully the bridge will become part of the Cuckoo Trail (a cycle track to Polegate).
  • A really nice old road sign, part of the character of Rotherfield, now replaced with an ugly modern one which someone will probably graffiti. You can just about see the word ‘Station’ painted over with the word ‘Eridge’. UPDATE 2008 – I found out the road sign was stolen! Someone else must like like it as much as I do! It holds more value left in it’s place though, in my opinion.
  • A strange thing is happening to a wall in Station Road, the bricks on the top appear to be rising!
